The City of Polo is led by the Mayor and six Aldermen/Alderperson. City government is divided into executive and legislative branches. The mayor is the chief executive while the city council, elected from 3 wards, is the legislative body.
Government priorities and activities are established in an appropriation budget adopted in May of each year. The city takes official action through the passage of ordinances and resolutions.

In addition to the mayor, Polo’s two other city-wide elected officials are the clerk and the treasurer.
The City Council meetings are held on the first and third Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall, located at 115 S. Franklin Avenue.
